Matthew Casebeer

opbmusic host

Matthew was born in Salem, OR. He lived in Los Angeles for 10 years but came back to Oregon in mid-2009. When he and his wife arrived in Portland, he wanted to immerse himself in the vibrant local music scene. So, he sought out opbmusic and started DJing in March 2010. Matthew has always loved radio. He volunteered at KNRK during high school, hosted a music show for his college radio station (KSCR, Los Angeles), worked for a few commercial radio stations in Los Angeles (KBIG/KOST), and volunteered at a nonprofit station in Santa Monica (KCRW). Fascinated by the behind-the-scenes production, he was hooked once he started speaking into microphones and choosing music to play to the masses. Having a voice on opbmusic continues to give him that thrill and helps him discover great new music

Michael Cavazos

opbmusic Host

Originally from San Antonio, Michael received his BFA in Theatre at Emerson College in Boston. It was there that he first explored DJing with the WERS show, Women in Music. After co-writing and producing two successful plays in Boston, Michael moved to NYC. He performed in various nightclubs and theatres, doing everything from hosting karaoke and open mic nights and variety shows to performing in burlesque, comedy acts and plays. He received his MA in Media Studies from The New School and began a career as a producer for the fashion photo studio, Studio W26.  Michael also co-created a sketch comedy troupe, Gender Offenders, focusing on issues of marriage equality, gender/sexuality and other contemporary issues in America. In 2009, Michael’s comedy-drag-rap show, Chic’Speare and Sasstronica, performed at the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots at the famed Stonewall Inn. In 2010, he and his partner moved to Portland.

Nikki Dobay

opbmusic host

Although born and raised in Ohio, Oregon has been Nikki's home for almost half of her life. By day, she's a corporate tax attorney. However, by night, she's a rabid music lover who's constantly going to local shows. Nikki started DJing at the college radio station at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania and quickly fell in love with the process of picking playlists and sharing music with listeners. After many years off the air, Nikki realized that she missed that process and was excited to join the staff at opbmusic where she digs through the music library each week.

Top Three Songs or Artists:  Ani Difranco, Harry Chapin, and The Beatles

Sarah Donofrio

opbmusic host

Sarah started record collecting at age 13, during the “alternative” 90’s, but found herself drawn to 80’s new romantic and new wave music. Armed with Depeche Mode and Smiths records, she eventually made her way to the East Coast and started DJing at indie dance clubs and mod-themed nights, meanwhile expanding her musical knowledge every day.  Missing the fresh air of the Pacific NW (born and raised), she now designs clothes and selects tracks in Portland, with her husband and menacing dog by her side.

Top Three Songs or Artists: David Sylvian, The Smiths, Mac Demarco (and Love)

Tuesdays at 9 a.m. & 6 p.m.

Ray Gill, Jr.

opbmusic Host

Ray Gill, Jr was born in Chicago, IL but moved to Texas as a child. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 2001, he remained in the college town of Denton, where he worked at an indie rock club called Hailey's. Over the course of seven years, Gill worked his way up from bartender to general manager and eventually owner of the venue. There he was exposed to some of the finest up and coming rock bands in the United States, including The Helio Sequence, Blitzen Trapper, STRFKR, St. Vincent, Midlake, and Sarah Jaffe. He left the night club business in 2013 and moved to Portland, OR where he now produces a show on Mondays for opbmusic and eagerly shares with his audience a mix of new music and the sounds of his youth.

Top Three Artists: Robert Nesta Marley, Hieroglyphics Crew, TV On The Radio

Chance Solem-Pfeifer

opbmusic Host

A born-and-raised Nebraskan, Chance moved to Portland in 2016 to pursue work as an arts and culture writer. He's contributed essays on film and literature to PopMatters, One Perfect Shot, Paste and elsewhere. His love of independent radio was stoked in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he hosted local music programs and acted as the managing editor for the music journalism nonprofit, Hear Nebraska. The weirdest thing Chance has ever done is train as a boxer; the most stereotypical thing he has done is listen to a ton of Bright Eyes while growing up in Omaha.

Top three artists:

Big Thief, Nina Simone, Paul Simon

Thuesdays at 6 a.m. & 3 p.m.

Arthur Lee

opbmusic host

Arthur was born in Guam but raised in Portland, OR. As an adult, he lived in LA for almost a decade. While there, he worked at the recording studio where Weird Al Yankovic recorded "Smells Like Nirvana." He ordered lunch for Mr. Yankovic. Also while in LA, Arthur worked at the public radio station KCRW.  There, he was a web-video producer for Morning Becomes Eclectic. A professional musician who currently plays in several Portland-based bands, Arthur is constantly trying to get inspiration from all kinds of music. At opbmusic, he tries to provide that same kind of inspiration to listeners.

Doug Lloyd

opbmusic Host

Doug grew up just outside of Baltimore, Maryland in a funky little town called Catonsville. His passion for rock climbing and outdoor adventure brought him to the Northwest for the first time in 1998 for a National Outdoor Leadership School Semester in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Returning to the East Coast for college in Georgia, Doug received his BFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art in 2002. After moving to Portland in 2005 with his older brother to find a life in the art and music scene, RIP City has become the only place in the lower 48 he could ever imagine living. Now, Doug spends his time creating music with friends in the band Folded Language, making art, and sharing music with listeners at opbmusic.

Favorite Bands: Animal Collective, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead

Fridays at 12 a.m. & 12 p.m.

Jonny Polivka

opbmusic host

An Oregon native, Jonny got his start in radio as a student at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. He was on-air and involved behind the scenes, assisting the station engineer at the small, student-run college station KTEC. Playing with the technical equipment was nice but being live, on-air, playing music was the real kick and an easy way to burn off stress (something he does each Thursday on opbmusic).

To pay the bills, Jonny works as a software engineer for a company based out of the Columbia Gorge. Outside of work and radio he enjoys running, hiking, camping, biking, a kid-free night out with the Missus, and a Saturday night movie fest at home with the family.

Top Artists: Phoenix, The Helio Sequence, The Go! Team, Beastie Boys, De La Soul, Zero 7 (this list can get long)

Since 1998, the program has raised over $750,000 in funds and in-kind contributions to Portland's underserved and underrepresented students.

When he is not playing with music on the radio he can be found going to concerts, riding his motorcycle, travelling or doing something active in the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.

Top Three Songs or Artists: Elvis Costello (My Aim is True), Nirvana (Smells like Teen Spirit), X (LA), Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin).

Francis Storr

opbmusic Host

Francis is originally from the UK, but has been living in Portland since October 2010. Although he was already a huge music fan, his love for music was cemented while he was at university in the UK. Francis had tickets to see one of his favorite bands The Almighty. That day, he spontaneously decided to skip a day of lectures and hang around outside the venue to see if he could get his albums signed. The plan worked. He met the band, who were wonderfully friendly and invited him to see their soundcheck. Feeling as though he had nothing to lose, he asked them if they'd play his favorite track. They did.

Top Three Songs or Artists: Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden and The Wildhearts

Mondays at 12 a.m. & 12 p.m.
