Welcome to the Monday Mix, where we showcase new music just added to the opbmusic broadcast. This week, we highlight the long-awaited return of an iconic songwriter and go on an international tour through New Zealand and Canada via Colombia.

Lido Pimienta - “Eso Que Tu Haces”

The Skinny: “Eso Que Tu Haces” (which translates to “that thing you do”) is the second single from Columbian-born artist Lido Pimienta’s album “Miss Colombia.” Pimienta, who moved to Canada in her teens, is known as an outspoken advocate of diversity and it’s reflected in her music. According to the artist, she composed “at least 100 songs with different people all over the universe” and those influences are dynamically displayed in this new track.

Fiona Apple - “Cosmonauts”

The Skinny: Fiona Apple’s song “Cosmonauts” was originally composed in 2012 for the Judd Apatow film “This Is 40.” Fiona says it was “re-recorded for this album, and I put a bunch of new vocals on it.” And it’s those signature vocals that stand out on the track, beginning with a sultry tone before steadily building to an impassioned scream and ending with a soothing whisper.

Nadia Reid - “Best Thing”

The Skinny: With strumming guitar and her heavenly voice, Kiwi artist Nadia Reid’s new single “Best Thing” is beautiful in its simplicity. Her vocal talent takes the wheel here, giving listeners the impression that she’s almost singing just for them. The track concludes with a string arrangement, giving the song an appropriately emotive ending.
