'Right 2 Dream Too' Will Be Sleeping Under The Broadway Bridge

The City of Portland has reached a settlement with Right 2 Dream Too, the local non-profit group that has operated a homeless camp in Old Town since October of 2011.

City Commissioner Amanda Fritz led negotiations with leaders of Right 2 Dream Too and the site’s property owners.

As part of the out-of-court settlement, the city will waive approximately $20,000 in outstanding fines against owners of the property where the camp is located — and owners will clear the site.

As for the residents of Right 2 Dream Too, commissioner Fritz will help negotiate a one-year land use agreement with the city for a lot located under the Broadway Bridge.

Fritz says she hopes Right 2 Dream Too’s success as a safe outdoor community opens a larger conversation about shelter for homeless people in Portland.

“This model could be something that could be replicated to provide cost effective safe places for people to rest,” Fritz said.

Michael Wright, one of the Old Town property owners, says he hopes to sell the site for development once residents of Right 2 Dream Too relocate.
